Pick Up & Play Blues is a growing collection of standalone lessons designed to help you quickly learn practical blues piano ideas in a clear, straightforward and musical way.

Each standalone lesson focuses on a single practical blues piano idea—such as an introduction, turnaround, ending, blues form, groove or all-round blues riff. Although the lessons are numbered for easy reference, they’re designed to be learned in any order, allowing you to gradually build a growing musical toolbox of ideas that can be mixed and matched to create your own blues arrangements.

While many of the lessons are taught within a twelve-bar blues context, the ideas can often be adapted, combined, and used in different ways within your own playing.

Because every lesson is standalone, you can return to any idea whenever you need it, helping you build confidence, musical feel and your own blues sound over time.

Lessons are taught in a variety of keys to help you become more comfortable across the keyboard. When lessons share the same key, you can mix and match them straight away. As your confidence grows, you’ll also be able to transpose these ideas into other keys, opening up even more creative possibilities.

Some basic familiarity with the piano keyboard and note names can be helpful, though the lessons are taught in a practical step-by-step way without unnecessary theoretical complexity so players can learn at their own pace.

Some lessons may be more challenging to play than others, depending on the musical idea being taught. However, every lesson is explained in a clear, practical, step-by-step way, making it easy to follow at your own pace.
